Ann Coulter made a series of factually inaccurate remarks during a Fox Business discussion about the Confederate flag. The virulently anti-immigrant author and television personality dismissed South Carolina’s Republican governor – who has called for the flag’s removal from the statehouse grounds – as an immigrant who “does not understand America’s history,” reported Media Matters.
“I’d really like to like Nikki Haley since she is a Republican, but on the other hand, she is an immigrant and does not understand America’s history,” Coulter said. Kennedy, the former MTV personality and current Fox host, asked Coulter whether immigrants were capable of understanding U.S. history.
“Well, she doesn’t,” Coulter said. “The Confederate flag we’re talking about never flew over an official Confederate building. It was a battle flag. It is to honor Robert E. Lee. And anyone who knows the first thing about military history, knows that there is no greater army that ever took the field than the Confederate Army.”
Lee, who had turned down command of the Union army, surrendered April 9, 1865 to Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant after his Confederate forces were defeated at the Battle of Appomattox Court House, signaling the end of the Civil War – go to this site.
